Senior Java Engineer
Oakland, CA

McKay Brothers, a profitable and rapidly growing provider of specialty telecom and financial market data, has an immediate opening for a Senior Java Engineer at the company's U.S. headquarters in Oakland, California. This role will work closely with teams in Europe and may be expected to work early hours for overlap.

Responsibilities:
As a Senior Java Engineer, you will provide technical support for internal applications running within the McKay Brothers network. Your expertise will be used to add features, trouble-shoot problems and develop solutions across the full stack of complex, ever-evolving web-services. Not only will you be responsible for developing thoughtful solutions, but you will also need to thoroughly test your changes and where necessary produce unit test suites to speed up and improve the quality assurance process.

Minimum requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience using Java 8 or above
  • 5+ years of experience using Javascript, HTML and CSS, ideally using Bootstrap
  • Working knowledge of messaging formats such as JSON, XML and Protobufs · In-depth experience using relational databases like Postgres, ideally using Hibernate
  • Web service and RESTful interface development, using frameworks such as Jersey
  • In-depth familiarity with tools for source control (Git), builds (Maven) and issue tracking (Jira)
  • Ability to understand and develop intelligent object-oriented design structure

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience developing web-services on the Dropwizard framework
  • Experience designing and developing single-page applications using AngularJS and/or Angular
  • Experience writing code to interface with external services such as open authentication
  • Working knowledge of Postman and/or other tools to test web applications

Some travel may be required.

The Oakland, CA base salary range for this full-time position is $100,000 - 175,000. Our salary ranges are determined by role, career level, and location. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Network Engineer (San Antonio)

The Network Engineer, working closely with our network team in Paris, is responsible for our core business needs as well as our internal corporate networking.

This role requires the candidate to spend a total of 6 months in Paris during the first year of employment.

Primary duties include implementation, configuration, troubleshooting and maintenance of computer networks, hardware, firmware, software and other related systems, as well as responding to client issues.

Successful candidates will need to have a strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware. You will also need to be able to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network devices including specialized low latency routers, switches, and custom devices. A deep knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols is highly desired.

Network Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and administering computer networks and related computing environments including systems software, applications software, hardware, and configurations
  • Monitoring and optimizing network performance to determine if adjustments need to be made
  • Designing, configuring and testing networking software, computer hardware, and operating system software
  • Work closely with other infrastructure engineers to troubleshoot and resolve complex problems (some after-hours and on-call work required)
  • Engage in active listening and have effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Think “Enterprise” and understand that every delivered solution must be consistent, redundant, standards compliant, well monitored, and thoroughly documented
  • Identify and diagnose complex problems and factors affecting network performance, particularly related to network latency

Network Engineer Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years relevant experience; experience building low latency infrastructure at trading or financial technology companies highly desirable
  • Bachelor degree or higher in Information Technology related field of study with a network engineering focus
  • A self-starter able to work independently but comfortable working in a team environment
  • Extensive familiarity with VLANs, multicast networks, and ACL's
  • Experience with low latency network infrastructure is desirable
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware
  • Ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems.
  • Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technology and products using documentation and internet resources.
  • Ability to work with clients and all levels of staff within and outside of IT and outside the organization

This is an onsite position based in our Oakland office and working closely with our network engineering team in Paris.

Some travel is required, with more extensive travel in the first year.
