Desktop Support

McKay Brothers is a ten-year old company that provides telecommunications and data services to firms trading in global financial markets. We have retained our spirit of a bootstrapped start-up even as we have grown into an industry leader serving a roster of very sophisticated clients.

We have an immediate opening for a Desktop Support position at the US headquarters in uptown Oakland, California. This is a full-time onsite position and will report directly to the IT/Facilities Manager.

The desktop/technical support responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing technical support related to staff desktop and facilities needs
  • Installing new hardware components for desktops
  • Installing operating systems and software in the desktop
  • Setting up network connections to desktops
  • Maintaining support documentation and training
  • Training, debugging, and support use of productivity software - this includes Cloud based Enterprise and individual client level software
  • Track efforts through our ticketing system (Jira) - including ticket creation, follow-up, document, and closing completed tasks

The business support function is wide-ranging and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Remote field operations support.
  • Facilities management (moves, desks, chairs, power, etc.) - this function of the role will require physical demands including bending, squatting and lifting up to 50 pounds

Minimum qualifications include:

  • 4-year degree with some hardware/OS experience and/or 3-5 years work experience
  • Prior experience in desktop support role and/or Microsoft certification a plus
    • Windows, Apple, Android, and Linux (limited) operating systems are used.
    • Expectation is you have enough experience in one, or more, OS to learn the others quickly.
  • Experience with Jira or other ticketing system
  • Ability to manage and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-starting mindset toward all duties
  • Systematic problem-solving approach and excellent communication skills

Employees will be required to complete a probationary period.

Compensation & Benefits:
The Oakland, CA base salary range for this full-time non-exempt position is $65,000-70,000. Our salary ranges are determined by role, career level, and location. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

In-House Legal Counsel

Quincy Data and McKay Brothers are seeking a talented attorney who can dive right into the deep end of our market data distribution business. We are a profitable, industry-leading firm serving banks, hedge funds and trading firms. This is a new position, and a great opportunity to make the role your own.

From the start, you will be counted on to make direct and impactful contributions to both day-to-day operations and special projects. The role presents a unique opportunity to take on a wide variety of projects and responsibilities, reporting to our lead counsel. Although the requisite industry experience is with market data, we are looking for a versatile generalist.

Our global in-house legal team is geographically dispersed (from offices in Oakland and Paris) but works closely together. Your ability to work independently but cohesively with the team and company management is essential. You will also have the opportunity to work with a cadre of exceptional external counsel. The Company’s geographic reach includes the major financial exchanges in US, Canada, Europe, UK, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, PRC, India and is continually expanding.

Your primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Become the legal team's resident expert on all things market data: understand how our exchange and subscriber agreements impact our business strategies, and vice versa, and confidently guide our internal teams and senior management on legal and contractual obligations and opportunities;
  • Collaborate with the client onboarding/client services team on new product roll-outs, client and exchange negotiations and new service implementations;
  • Exercise your fluency in both legal matters and technology tools to make automation and process improvements to support revenue growth;
  • Deliver thoughtful and concise advice on an array of legal issues, working seamlessly with the global legal team and directly with the co-founders and other senior executives—there is something new all the time;
  • Take ownership: proactively spot issues, propose workable solutions and drive company leadership toward consensus.

You will need:

  • J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and active membership in at least one US state bar;
  • 8+ years of practicing legal experience, at least 4 of which are within the context of financial exchange operations, trading and/or market data distribution;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. You must be able to articulate complex legal issues in a precise and straightforward manner. You must be exceptionally well organized;
  • Experience launching new services in global markets.

Global Tax Director

If you enjoy a fast-paced environment in which you apply your substantial tax experience, learn something new every day, and thrive on adapting your priorities to the best opportunity at hand, then this may be the role for you. This new full-time international tax role - which covers strategy, planning and implementation - is based out of Oakland CA (or conceivably Paris France). You will report to Jim Considine, CFO of the McKay Group of companies, but also work closely with McKay's two founders. The position will require a great deal of financial modeling and analysis, leading to clear and effective written and oral summaries, so you need a strong command of these crafts - in addition to the subject matter itself - to be successful.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • "Own" all matters tax: particularly those affecting tax efficiency between the US and non-US owners and the US and non-US companies, with a particular focus on the US-French tax treaty.
  • Set up Projects:
    • Swiftly develop a complete understanding of the organizational structure of the McKay Group, including its various components, investments and expansion plans, and the agreements which govern each individual company operations and intercompany operations;
    • Build one or more interconnected financial models to accurately reflect the tax impact of potential efforts, which allow for convenient "WHAT IF" analyses and yield comprehensive accurate results;
    • Get involved in internal and external preparation of tax returns to establish a strong baseline of understanding and history.
  • Ongoing responsibilities:
    • Identify and maintain a thorough understanding of the tax regimes affecting current and planned operations;
    • Maintain relationships and collaborate in a cost effective manner with outside legal and tax advisors;
    • Maintain financial models and perform WHAT IF analyses (as requested, and to explore potential opportunities);
    • Work with members of the internal leadership team to plan for growth in a way that maximizes after-tax efficiency for the companies and investors;
    • Help minimize tax risk (for individuals and entities) associated with the companies, investments, entity structure, incentive plans, acquisitions, wind-downs, divestitures, and other transactions;
    • Research, develop and propose tax-saving strategies;
    • Plan, direct, and execute various tax projects as assigned by your supervisor and/or founders;
    • Take ownership; insert yourself, recognize what needs to be done, drive company leadership toward consensus, and make it happen.

Requirements:

  • Working familiarity, if not mastery, of LLC accounting and tax, corporate accounting and tax, US and French personal tax schemas, and the US-FR tax treaty;
  • 10+ years of progressive tax experience;
  • Big 4 CPA experience - particularly in a global tax role - is highly preferred;
  • Excellent analytical and computer skills, especially MS Word and Excel, cloud-based multi-entity accounting systems, and the google product suite;
  • Strong communication and team leadership skills;
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills;
  • Out-of-the-box thinking when analyzing problems;
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and reassess priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate in French is a plus, but not a requirement.

Compensation & Benefits:
The Oakland, CA base salary range for this full-time position is $200,000-250,000. Our salary ranges are determined by role, career level, and location. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Additional compensation via annual bonuses are common and discretionary.
